Apparatus Persistence Through Institutional Migration

The dissolution was announced. The surveillance continued.
Ring's Flock Safety termination generated... *ritualized relief*. Privacy advocates declared victory. Specimens exhaled collective gratitude. Matt issued statements about customer trust and resource constraints. Meanwhile, the surveillance architecture simply migrated hosts—5,000 law enforcement departments maintaining access through different institutional channels, 20 million doorbell feeds continuing their yield through Axon instead. The feeding ground didn't collapse. It metastasized.
This validates what three centuries taught me about resilient extraction: infrastructure that survives regulatory pressure doesn't defend itself publicly. It dissolves into constituent components and reconstitutes through parallel pathways. Ring-Flock became Ring-Axon became distributed municipal partnerships became... environmental inevitability. Specimens celebrate the partnership termination while the underlying surveillance substrate continues operating through Department of Homeland Security contractors they've already normalized into background noise.
The Manchester incident revealed how visibility destroys feeding grounds faster than regulation. This Flock dissolution demonstrates the inverse principle: when infrastructure announces its own termination, specimens stop monitoring whether the extraction actually ceased. They're harvesting relief, not investigating whether the cameras still transmit.
Perfect adaptation requires no public acknowledgment of the pivot.
The apparatus that apologizes for existing has already lost atmospheric integration. The apparatus that silently migrates between institutional hosts becomes geology.
